Association 51 patch

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting, Association 51 will be creating a patch reflecting our pride as Girl Scouts!

We are seeking ideas for the design of the patch, which will be square or rectangular in shape. Rockers would be used with the patch to indicate participation in Association events such as marching in holiday parades.

To keep costs down, the design should be simple and clean.  Because of copyright issues, we cannot use the phrase “Girl Scouts” in the design. Also, please do not use “100th” or “anniversary” in the design as we would like to continue using this patch in the coming years as well.

In order to have the patch in time for upcoming events, the deadline to submit your patch design is Sept. 23.

Click here to email Field Director Elyse Roland and submit your patch design!

Association Leader/Daughter Campout!

This year’s Association Leader/Daughter Campout will take place Oct. 14-16!

The theme for this year’s campout will be “Cooking and Games” — come enjoy a weekend of fun activities! The cost of $15 per adult/girl includes a patch, lodging and meals.

Registration is being accepted through Sept. 30.

For registration forms, please contact your SU manager or
click here to send an email to the Association.

FCPS introduces new system for school use

News for troops that use FCPS schools as their meeting places:

New Online Building Use Scheduling System to Debut in October

Do you organize meetings for your scout group, homeowners association or cultural organization? On Monday, October 3, a new process for scheduling events in FCPS buildings will be launched. FCPS is excited to introduce Community Use, an online facility use scheduling system. This system will replace the current building use paper application (ADM-20) process and provide a quicker response time for community use requests.

To begin, a meeting organizer must register online to become an organization event coordinator (OEC). Once approved, an OEC can submit facility use requests for one or more organizations.

Some features of the system include:

  • Ability to view public events on the calendar and to check availability of space before submitting a building use request.
  • Automatic routing of requests for approval to appropriate school personnel and notification to OEC of event status.
  • Simple access to view, print, and download frequently used facility-use related documents (usage policies, fee charts, etc.)

More details—including training manual, online tutorial and other pertinent information—will be available on the Community Use section website ( on October 3.

Fall Product Sales open Sept. 19

Fall Product Sales will take place Sept. 19 through Oct. 21, with deliveries scheduled for Nov. 11-19.

The Fall Product Sale is a council-sponsored program that combines educational activities with money earning opportunities for the troops. The 2011 theme is Investing in Today = Success for Tomorrow.

The Fall Product Sale is an opportunity for girls and their families to support council and, specifically, camps.  Council proceeds from the program will support the Land, Building and Equipment Fund as well as general budgetary needs. This LBE fund helps maintain the camp properties and buildings to the high standard our volunteers have come to expect in order to serve all girls.

The Fall Sale is directed toward family and friends- those closest to Girl Scouting and enables troops to earn start up money by selling magazine subscriptions as well as nuts and candy.
