Troops encouraged to take the Plastic Waste Challenge

In February 2011, Girl Scouts will work to reduce plastic waste by using reusable grocery bags and water bottles.

As a council, we are challenging every girl in every troop in the entire council to make the switch to reusable water bottles and grocery bags and track how many times from February 1st though February 28th they have used their bottle or bag.

At the end of the month Girl Scouts will be able to submit their totals through an online survey where we will be able to track how many plastic bags and bottles didn’t end up in the garbage.

The Association and Troop who reduce the most plastic waste will be honored at the Annual meeting held in April 2011!

GSCNC has created a Plastic Waste Challenge Tracker to help Girl Scouts keep track of how many times they use their bag/bottle.

If you’d like to be REALLY green though, and avoid using paper altogether, we’ve created an online tracker using Google Docs: http://bit.ly/eWfI3M

Just create a free Google account if you don’t already have one, then Sign In (link at the top). Once you’ve signed in, you should still see the sheet in your window. Click on File at the top left, and make a copy for your troop.

On March 1, when you’ve got your troop totals, enter the amount at the Girl Scouts Forever Green Plastic Waste Challenge Report.
